Moving off campus? Attend Renter Education Session Feb. 23
Unsure about housing plans for next year? Considering living off-campus? Numerous resources are available. Make informed decisions and don't rush into anything – especially since the majority of rental agreements do not need to be made until after spring break.
Here are some resource options:
- Check with Residence Life to learn more about on-campus possibilities for next year.
- Read "Renter Resources," available online or in hard copy at the Commuter Center, lower level, Murray-Herrick Campus Center.
- Attend the Renter Education Session at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23. Learn about the rental process and enter for a chance to win $500 toward the first month's rent or on-campus housing cost.
- Take advantage of the free legal advice UST provides to students. A lawyer can review leases or other legal documents such as a sublease or co-tenant agreement. Check the Dean of Students Web page for a listing of when the lawyers are in the Commuter Center.
- Check out the housing listings available on the Commuter Center Web site. Fall listings already are available for viewing; listings are updated daily; then, check out the City of St. Paul Web site to look up property information by address. Learn if there have been any citizen complaints or unresolved maintenance issues at your property.
- Talk to friends who live off campus and ask for information and opinions of their neighborhoods, their landlords, living conditions, etc. Walk through the neighborhood to find "for rent" signs.
- Learn more about commuter parking permits, city bus routes and the free walking escorts Public Safety provides by visiting the Public Safety and Parking Services Web site.
Taking the time to learn more about your rights and responsibilities can make the rewarding experience of living off-campus an even better one.
