An ecumenical memorial prayer service for Daniel Zamlen will be held at 7 p.m. today, Thursday, April 8, in the St. John Vianney Seminary chapel located on the main campus of the University of St. Thomas.
Today would have been Dan’s 20th birthday. He was reported missing on April 5, 2009, and his body was recovered several weeks later in the Mississippi River. Many students, along with Dan’s friends and relatives from Minnesota’s Iron Range, where he grew up, participated in the 26-day search.
“So many people helped search and look for him, this is a nice way for him to be remembered and for all of us as a community to get back together to honor his life and celebrate his birthday,” said one of the memorial service organizers, Greg Scharine, who was a friend of Dan’s and is the sophomore class president.
“I encourage those who knew Dan or answered the call a year ago to help us look for him to come,” he said.
