From UST Libraries
Everybody knows that there is a ton of "stuff" on the free Web that passes for research resources, and hopefully many people are aware that much of this "stuff" is, at best, inconsistent in quality and verifiability. For this and many other reasons, UST Libraries would like to take a little bit of time to remind everybody that the three libraries on both campuses are not only terrific places to meet and to use computers, but they all provide excellent reference resources and services to the UST community.
Library databases on the Web provide 24/7 access to quality journal and newspaper articles, financial statements, books, encyclopedias and a vast array of other materials from campus or other remote locations. Reference materials in the print collections found in all of the library collections include directories, handbooks, dictionaries and encyclopedias that complement the material found in the electronic databases.
Because it can be intimidating to initiate a search, wade through the resources, or formulate an effective research strategy, reference librarians are available on both campuses to assist you at any point in the research process. Since librarians work with faculty members and departments, they are aware of major assignments and key resources in a specific discipline. In order to fit your busy schedules, the librarians have created Web-based subject guides on the UST Libraries page and make themselves available for consultation in person, by phone or via e-mail.

O'Shaughnessy-Frey Library Center is the main library on the St. Paul campus. The library houses materials in the humanities, science, social sciences and business. Call the reference desk, (651) 962-5001.
Charles J. Keffer Library, on the Minneapolis campus, supports the School of Education, the College of Business, and the Graduate School of Professional Psychology. Call the reference desk, (651) 962-4664.
Archbishop Ireland Memorial Library is the graduate theology library of UST and the St. Paul Seminary School of Divinity. It serves seminarians and lay students in graduate and continuing education programs, UST undergraduates, and archdiocesan parish professionals. Call the reference desk, (651) 962-5450.
Database of the week
The UST libraries have added many new online databases to our collection over the summer and we will highlight them over the next several weeks in the Bulletin Today. This week's featured database is SPORTDiscus.
SPORTDiscus is a unique collection of over 650,000 records in sports, fitness and health medicine-related literature from all over the world. Published by the Sport Information Research Centre, the world's leading provider of sport information and research, this database includes articles and abstracts from popular and scholarly publications, books, book chapters and conference proceedings. Because of the multidisciplinary materials in SPORTDiscus, patrons can use it to search on the topics of nutrition and exercise programs, sports business and sports marketing, or sports issues in the news, such as Title IX.
