National Library Week
Next week is National Library Week, and UST librarians will be available to answer research questions from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, April 14-16, in the Commuter Lounge, Murray-Herrick Campus Center. Challenge these highly visible librarians-with-laptops who can help you find information for any assignment or general interest.

UST Libraries adopts new donation policy
Several things have converged in "library land" that are pushing UST libraries to change its donation policy for books, journals and DVDs. The bottom line is that UST libraries will accept fewer donations and that all donations need to be pre-approved by appropriate collectors.
UST Libraries will continue to accept books from students, staff and faculty of the university if they are in good shape. It will accept fiction for the book sale, but no textbooks.
The University of Minnesota Serials Exchange, which took duplicate print journals and then made them available to other libraries in the state to fill in back runs, is no longer accepting journals due to lack of funding and low usage; therefore, UST Libraries cannot accept print journal issues unless there are known gaps in the UST collection and there is no electronic access for those titles.
UST Libraries will accept only DVDs for the UST media collection.

The definition of the term gazetteer, when used in a geographical sense, is a "geographical index or dictionary." When used in print atlases or map indexes, gazetteers are simply assemblages of alphabetically ordered listings of places or physical and cultural features. More extensive gazetteers include brief descriptions along with the listings. The electronic gazetteer, however, is a comprehensive encyclopedia of geographical places and features.
