James Kouzes, co-author of The Leadership Challenge: How to Keep Getting Extraordinary Things Done in Organizations, will give a free talk at the University of St. Thomas.

Kouzes will speak on “Caring Leadership: How to Get Extraordinary Things Done Through Rewarding and Recognizing Others” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, in Thornton Auditorium at the university’s downtown Minneapolis campus, 1000 LaSalle Ave.

The presentation, open to the public, will be followed by a question-and-answer period. The university’s Graduate School of Business and the Minnesota Center for Corporate Responsibility are co-sponsors of the talk.

Kouzes will be at St. Thomas as a distinguished visiting scholar.

More than a million copies of The Leadership Challenge have been printed in 11 languages. Kouzes and co-author Barry Posner also have written Credibility: How Leaders Gain and Lose It, Why People Demand It. Their most recent books, released in early 1999, are Encouraging the Heart and The Leadership Challenge Planner. Based on research involving more than 70,000 surveys and 1,000 case studies, the books describe leadership principles that generate high performance in individuals and organizations.

Kouzes is chairman of The Tom Peters Group/Learning Systems, a training company that specializes in developing leaders.
