'Killing Us Softly: Advertising's Image of Women' Film to be Shown Thursday

The University Advocates for Women and Equity will show the fourth installment of Jean Kilbourne’s pioneering “Killing Us Softly” series on Thursday, April 14.

The documentary takes a fresh look at how advertising traffics in distorted and destructive ideals of femininity. It marshals a range of new print and television advertisements to lay bare a stunning pattern of damaging gender stereotypes – images and messages that too often reinforce unrealistic and unhealthy perceptions of beauty, perfection and sexuality.

The event will begin at noon in the Luann Dummer Center for Women, Room 103, O’Shaughnessy Educational Center.
