The Search Committee for the Associate Dean of Academic Advising has selected Dr. John Krebsbach for the position. Dr. Tom Connery, dean of the College, announced the three-year appointment, which will begin July 1.
Krebsbach ’68 received his B.A. in music and music education (cum laude) from St. Thomas, his M.A. in education and music education from St. Thomas, and his D.M.A. in clarinet pedagogy and performance with supporting areas of reed pedagogy and music education from the University of Minnesota.
He began his career as director of instrumental music at Oltman Junior High School, St. Paul Park, Minn., 1969-1975, and at Park Senior High School, Cottage Grove, Minn., 1975-1979. He came back to his alma mater serving as assistant professor of music and band director at St. Thomas, 1979-1991. He has been an associate professor of music since 1991 and was: assistant dean for academic advising and special programs, 1991-1994; chair of the Music Department, 1995-1999; and interim associate dean for academic advising and special programs, 1999-2000.
At St. Thomas, Krebsbach has taught clarinet and saxophone performance studies, music education, orchestration, music literature and musical acoustics. He supervised student teachers, advised music education students (undergraduate and graduate) and was freshman and transfer student liaison for music majors and minors. He led concert band tours to alumni gatherings across the country.
Among his many professional activities, Krebsbach has served as faculty representative on the St. Thomas Alumni Association board of directors and the Faculty Development Committee. He received a Faculty Development Grant to work with Pulitzer Prize winner, Norman Dello Joio, for the premier performance of his UST centennial commission piece, “Metaphrase on Lines of Shakespeare,” written for the UST Concert Band and, along with Dr. Thomas Tommet, also was awarded a Faculty Development Grant to establish an interdisciplinary course, “Musical Acoustics.”
Krebsbach has given numerous solo performances with the UST Faculty Festival Orchestra, The College Orchestra and the UST-CSC Concert Band. He gave a lecture recital, playing “Sanctus” by Robert Onefry at the University of Minnesota and was principal clarinetist in a performance with the Grand Symphonic Winds.
He is a member of the National Education Association, the Minnesota Music Educators Association and the International Clarinet Association.
