January-Term externships help students gain valuable experience St. Thomas Newsroom December 1, 1999 Are you looking for experience in your intended career field? Do you need general or elective credits to fulfill graduation requirements? Do you want to add work experience to your resume?Consider enrolling in IDSC475-01 Career Exploration for January Term 2000. As a student in this course, you will take part in externship arrangements between St. Thomas and local businesses.These externships will provide you with opportunities to observe, experience and gain a better understanding of a career you have chosen or are considering. In the past there have been positions in accounting, communications, computer science, education, finance, general business management, human resources, international business, operations management, marketing and the sciences. All corporations are in the metro area and easily accessible from UST.Students in all majors are encouraged to participate. Priority will be given to juniors and seniors. Sophomores will be accepted on an individual basis.Grading is on a pass-fail basis. To receive credits, students must meet the following requirements:Spend 60-80 hours working at your assigned businessRead What Color Is Your ParachuteMaintain a log of work activitiesWrite a reflective paper on your experienceAttend one or two class sessions determined by the instructorStudent-made matches also are accepted.
