Are you looking for experience in your intended career field? Do you need general or elective credits to fulfill graduation requirements? Do you want to add work experience to your resume?
Consider enrolling in IDSC475-01 Career Exploration for January Term 2000. As a student in this course, you will take part in externship arrangements between St. Thomas and local businesses.
These externships will provide you with opportunities to observe, experience and gain a better understanding of a career you have chosen or are considering. In the past there have been positions in accounting, communications, computer science, education, finance, general business management, human resources, international business, operations management, marketing and the sciences. All corporations are in the metro area and easily accessible from UST.
Students in all majors are encouraged to participate. Priority will be given to juniors and seniors. Sophomores will be accepted on an individual basis.
Grading is on a pass-fail basis. To receive credits, students must meet the following requirements:
- Spend 60-80 hours working at your assigned business
- Read What Color Is Your Parachute
- Maintain a log of work activities
- Write a reflective paper on your experience
- Attend one or two class sessions determined by the instructor
Student-made matches also are accepted. If you have an internship arranged and you need general credits, talk to Dr. Thadavillil Jithendranathan, (651) 962-5123. He will determine if your internship would qualify for the Career Exploration course.
Applications are available in the Division of Business office, Room 201, McNeely Hall. You also can apply online at http://department.stthomas.edu/BUAD/idsc475.htm. Call (651) 962-5544 for more information.
