Jeff Halper, a 1968 Macalester alum, anthropologist and Israeli peace activist, will speak at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, in the Weyerhaeuser Board Room of Macalester College, 62 Macalester St. (just south of Grand Avenue). He will discuss the Israeli government’s demolition of Palestinian houses on the West Bank.
Students, faculty and staff from the ACTC schools are welcome to attend. A reception will follow the discussion.
A native of Hibbing, Minn., Halper moved to Israel in 1973. He is a professor at Ben Gurion University and the head of a firm that develops museums and cultural parks. He also is coordinator of the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions.
Joining Halper for the discussion will be Salim Shawamreh, an employee of the Palestinian Ministry of Industry, whose house has been demolished. They have worked together to rebuild houses on the West Bank.
The event is sponsored by Macalester’s Classics and Religious Studies departments and its College Relations office.
