IRT Upgrades Adobe Reader This Week

Information Resources and Technologies plans to install Adobe Reader X starting with computer replacements the week of June 6, and then push it across campus on Friday, June 10.

This upgrade is needed due to security flaws in older versions of Adobe Reader. Version X includes a new default interface, which may lead some users to believe the program is not working properly.

In the new version, when opening a PDF file from the Internet, the toolbar does not appear at the top of the browser. It appears for a few seconds at the bottom, center of the page when the document first opens, then disappears. The toolbar will reappear when the user moves the mouse to that location of the document. This is called “Reader Mode.”
