Barry Randall, chief investment officer of CrabTree Asset Management, will speak at the UST Investment Club meeting tomorrow, Thursday, Oct. 7.
The discussion and topic, “The Only Way to Win the Game is Not to Play,” will examine his view that the Wall Street Journal, CNBC and other informational sources are wrong and how paying attention to them diminishes an investor’s ability to succeed.
The meeting will be held from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room 106, McNeely Hall. All members of the UST community are invited to attend free of charge; food will be provided.
Randall is a professional money manager and the founder of Crabtree Asset Management, based in St. Paul, Minn. After earning his M.B.A. from the University of Texas in 1993, he began his career as a junior analyst with a sell-side boutique firm in Austin. By 2002, he had risen to become the lead manager of the First American Technology fund in Minneapolis. After only 30 months, he took that product’s trailing three-year track record from bottom decile to top quartile.
He then joined MTB Investment Advisers in Baltimore, where, in his first year co-managing its Small Cap Growth fund, he earned Category King honors for the product’s 2006 performance. In 2007, he joined Lazard Asset Management in Minneapolis, in order to co-manage Lazard’s Small Cap Growth fund.
In March 2009, Randall founded Crabtree Asset Management and in March 2010, Crabtree became an “Approved Manager” on kaChing’s platform for Registered Investment Advisers.
