Kao Kalia Yang, author of The Latehomecomer: A Hmong Family Memoir, will speak at the third general meeting of the Hmong United Student Association on Thursday, March 8.
Her book was a double winner at the he 2009 Minnesota Book Awards. The book won the Memoir/Creative Nonfiction category and, based on more than 2,000 votes cast by readers from around the state, the Readers’ Choice Award.
The book traces her family’s flight from their native home after the Vietnam War. The author also will lead a short discussion on education inside and outside of the classroom.
Yang has a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Creative Nonfiction Writing from Columbia University. She resides with her husband and writes from their home in Minneapolis.
The meeting will be held during convo hour in Room 209, O’Shaughnessy Educational Center. Everyone is welcome; lunch will be provided.
