'HIV/AIDS and Systems of Injustice' talk will be held Oct. 5
Kevin Winge, the executive director of Open Arms Minnesota, will discuss "HIV/AIDS and Systems of Injustice" from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, in Room 100, McNeely Hall.
Open Arms Minnesota is the only service in the Twin Cities area that prepares and delivers meals to people living with HIV and AIDS. Winge is the author of Never Give Up: Vignettes from Sub-Saharan Africa in the Age of AIDS. He will examine ways in which rates of infection are perpetuated by systems of oppression.
Here are some facts:
- Every 10 seconds, someone somewhere in the world, is infected by HIV.
- Over 90 percent of people living with the virus live in the developing world.
- Over 95 percent of people living with the virus live in poverty conditions.
This lecture is part of the University of St. Thomas-Open Arms of Minnesota service-learning partnership.
The event, free and open to the public, is sponsored by the St. Thomas Office of Service Learning, and is made possible by a grant from Minnesota Campus Compact, and funding from STAR and the University Lectures Committee.
