Health Services Reports Increased Cases of Influenza

Health Services is reporting an increased incidence of influenza. Five students have been diagnosed with Influenza A during the past ten days. Although this cluster of activity is later than usual for influenza, it is not uncommon. Symptoms include:

  • Rapid onset of high fever (>101)
  • Intense body aches
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Headache
  • Extreme tiredness

If you are experiencing these symptoms:

  • Avoid contact with others
  • Rest and drink lots of fluids
  • If you are in a high-risk group, call your health care provider for advice

Seek medical attention if you are having these symptoms:

  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
  • Pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen
  • Sudden dizziness
  • Confusion
  • Severe or persistent vomiting
  • Flu-like symptoms that improve, but return with worse fever and cough

Remember that contracting the flu is possible even if you have received a flu shot.
