Happy ‘Year of the Golden Snake’ St. Thomas Newsroom February 1, 2001 UST’s Multicultural Student Services staff wishes you a happy lunar new year! Jan. 24 marked the beginning of a new year for many Asian ethnic groups. More than a billion people around the world ushered in the “Year of the Golden Snake.”The Student Affairs Division invites you to a lunar new year celebration from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, in the atrium of Terrence Murphy Hall at St. Thomas’ Minneapolis campus, 1000 LaSalle Ave.The program will feature performance by the Minnesota Chinese Dance Theater and origami (the ancient art of paper folding) demonstrations by two St. Thomas graduate students. Students from the HOPE (Hmong Open Partnerships in Education) Academy and Minnesota Institute of Technology, two charter schools that St. Thomas sponsors, also have been invited to participate in the celebration. Enjoy Oriental foods and the company of the UST community.The charter schools’ staffs and board members are conducting a Media Center Book Drive.
