Free showing of film on global HIV/AIDS epidemic is today
Everyone is welcome to a free film screening of "A Closer Walk," by Academy Award nominee Robert Bilheimer. The event will be held at 7 p.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 1, in O'Shaughnessy Educational Center auditorium.
"A Closer Walk" depicts humankind's confrontation with the global AIDS pandemic. Subjects and story lines encompass the broad spectrum of the global AIDS experience and include people with HIV/AIDS from all walks of life: children and orphans with AIDS and those caring for them, doctors, nurses and social workers; human rights advocates; and prominent scientists, economists, researchers, government leaders and NGO officials.
The film's basic themes investigate the underlying causes of AIDS; the relationship between health, dignity and human rights, and the universal need for action, compassion and commitment to counter what has become the worst plague in human history.
Narrated by Glenn Close and Will Smith, the movie features interviews with the Dalai Lama, Bono and Kofi Annan, with musical contributions by Annie Lennox, the Neville Brothers, Eric Clapton and Sade. Filmed on four continents over a period of three years, "A Closer Walk" is a production of Worldwide Documentaries, a not-for-profit film production company focusing on matters of cultural, social and humanitarian interest.
