St. Thomas’ International Education Center announces four scholarships:
- IEC Merit Scholarship,
- Kucera Scholarship for study in the Czech Republic,
- Scholarship to study in Cuba
- IIE Midwest Regional Center Study Abroad Scholarships
The IEC Merit Scholarship offers a student $1,000 to study abroad on a semester-, year-long, or summer program. Selection criteria include academic merit, campus or community involvement and financial need. Application deadline for the next academic year is March 15, 2000.
A special $500 Kucera Scholarship will be awarded for fall 2000 to a student to study in the Czech Republic. To qualify, students must apply to a study-abroad program and be in good academic standing. Selection will be made on the basis of academic merit, financial need and the quality of a written essay. Preference will be given to students of Czech descent. Application deadline is March 15, 2000.
The IEC has received a gift to fund two $500 scholarships for St. Thomas students to study in Cuba. The scholarship may be used for study in summer 2000, fall 2000, or January Term 2001. Selection will be made on the basis of academic merit and the quality of a written essay. Application deadline is March 15, 2000.
The Institute for International Education (IIE) awards 20 $1,000 scholarships to Midwest students with little or no previous study-abroad experience at the university level. St. Thomas students in good academic standing may apply. Application materials are available at the IEC or on the web at http://www.iie.org/midwest. The deadline is March 10, 2000.
