The St. Thomas football team needs some help but still has a shot at making the NCAA playoff field for the first time since 1991. The Tommies (6-3 overall, 6-2 MIAC) will finish the regular season at 8 p.m. tonight at the Metrodome in Minneapolis when they meet Hamline. It’s the second game of a MIAC doubleheader at the Dome. Tickets for this game will be available at the Metrodome (outside Gates F and H) and will cost $8 for adults and $4 for students. Youths under age 12 will be admitted free.
St. Thomas defeated Concordia, 22-7, last Friday in Fargo. The decision knocked the Cobbers out of first place and into a four-way tie for second behind St. John’s. A St. Thomas victory over Hamline plus some help in Friday’s games (most notably a St. John’s loss to Gustavus) would propel the Tommies into a share of the football title for the first time since 1990. A five-way tie for the top is possible. If that occurred, St. Thomas would advance to the NCAA playoffs on tiebreakers.
