Fireside Discussions, a lecture series for parents of St. Thomas students, to begin Feb. 15

In response to many requests from parents of students for an opportunity to learn more about the university, its programs and faculty, the Parent Network is initiating a lecture-and-discussion series.

The first talk will be given by Jane Canney, vice president for student affairs, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, in Room 160, Murray-Herrick Campus Center. She will address the St. Thomas campus response to issues around alcohol. She also will answer any questions from the audience.

Canney brings to St. Thomas extensive experience in higher education and in managing and working in complex organizations. Her background includes 14 years in student affairs at the University of Minnesota. In March, Canney will start her third year as vice president of student affairs.

The St. Thomas community is invited to these talks.

If you can’t make the first discussion in this series, mark your calendars for the next speaker, Dr. Ronald Bennett, founding dean of the School of Engineering. He will lead a discussion, topic to be announced, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, in O’Shaughnessy Science Hall.
