Exempt Staff Council to Host Fall Forum, Conduct Professional Development Survey

Greetings from your Exempt Staff Council.

The council has been busy this summer organizing various gatherings for the exempt (salaried) staff based on feedback that we have received from our constituents.

It was clear that a Benefits 101 session with our Human Resources department would be helpful; therefore, our fall forum will focus on our benefits and how the university uses benchmarking to secure our benefits packages. We will be offering lunch during this session and need members to R.S.V.P. if they are going to attend to ensure that we order enough food. See more details below.

Another prominent topic of interest was professional development; however, we need more information regarding definitions of professional development and examples. If you would like to share feedback regarding professional development, please take a moment to complete the survey below.

Additional projects in the works include brown-bag sessions. Again, in reviewing the feedback that we received, we saw a need for small brown-bag sessions on various topics. Watch your e-mail and future Bulletin Today stories for more information on those.

The Exempt Staff Council has received various requests inquiring about professional development. Before we can move forward on this research we need more information from our exempt staff members. This survey is meant to glean a definition and get more specifics. Please complete this survey by Sept. 17.

  • Location: Room 304, Murray-Herrick Campus Center in St. Paul, and Room 252, Terrence Murphy Hall in Minneapolis

Do you ever wonder about how the benefits decisions are made at St. Thomas? Over the past year, exempt staff members have had the opportunity to participate in several surveys prepared by the Exempt Staff Council. Several topics lead the list and are related to benefits and HR initiatives. The Exempt Staff Council has invited Edna Comedy and Stephanie Monogue to speak to the exempt staff about our benefits package as a whole.

Certainly several questions have been raised in recent surveys regarding the rationale for various policies; however, to answer these questions, the entire package needs to be explored as there are many pieces of the puzzle. This forum is meant to address our benefits package in a holistic manner.

Edna and Stephanie will share how Human Resources and the university benchmark our benefits packages, salaries and retirement packages, and who we use for those benchmarks. Please bring your questions regarding benefits to this meeting as we will have a question-and-answer period as well. Please click here to use our contact page if you wish to send an anonymous comment or e-mail a question to have asked on your behalf at the meeting.

We will provide lunch at this meeting. Again, here is the link to R.S.V.P. for the fall forum. You will need to choose:

  1. The campus in which you will attend the meeting.
  2. If you need a vegetarian or nonvegetarian meal.

We will hold the meeting live in St. Paul and simulcast it to the Minneapolis campus.
