As part of the activities surrounding the spring Common Text, Dead Man’s Cell Phone by Sarah Ruhl, the English Department has asked students, faculty and staff to give up a favorite piece of technology for a day and write about the experience.

The challenge was issued last week, and the blog posts are coming in. If you are interested in reading and responding to other people’s experiences, check out the Technology Surrender Challenge blog.

The English Department will accept and post blog posts at least through April 30, so there is still time to take the challenge. All you have to do is refrain from using a vital piece of technology for a single day and write about the experience.

Blog posts should be 800 words or less and can contain images, links, videos or whatever else you can think of. When you finish your post, send it to cellchallenge@stthomas.edu, and it will be published on the blog. This challenge is open to faculty and staff as well as students.

See what it’s like to live a day without Facebook or a cell phone. Who knows, you might like it; regardless, use modern technology and blog about it.
