English Department announces winners of its annual essay contest
From the English Department
Congratulations to the following students for submitting the best essay in their respective category for this year's annual essay contest. The contest is open to all first-year students enrolled in 100-level English courses during the current academic year. Each winner will be awarded $75.
The winners and the titles of their papers are:
- Lauren Barnhart, "A Story without Hope,” an essay about Annie Proulx's short story "Brokeback Mountain," written for an ENGL 190 course taught by Dr. Catherine Craft-Fairchild
- Oromiya Hassen, "Mosque," a reflective essay about attending her family's mosque in north Minneapolis, written for an ENGL 110 course taught by Dr. Alexis Easley
- Drew McNeill, "Symbolism of Dishware in American Beauty," written for an ENGL 111-112 course taught by Brian Timmerman
