The Haitian Government reports that between 217,000 and 230,000 people have been identified as dead, and that an estimated 300,000 were injured and an estimated 1,000,000 were made homeless following the Jan. 12 earthquake.

Dr. Thomas Hickson of St. Thomas’ Geology Department will speak on “The Haitian Earthquake: A Geoscientist’s Perspective” on Wednesday, March 3.

Sponsored by the Geology Club, the event will begin with a social at 6 p.m. in the lobby outside 3M Auditorium, Room 150, Owens Science Hall, where you’ll find Haitian art and baked goods.

Hickson’s talk will start at 6:30 p.m. in 3M Auditorium. He will discuss the earthquake and the science behind it.
