“We’re All in This Together” is the theme of this year’s celebration of Earth Week at St. Thomas. Because Earth Day fell on Good Friday, April 22, St. Thomas is celebrating Earth Week today through Saturday, April 30.
Fun activities and informative events are planned throughout the week, including games, giveaways, prizes, a scavenger hunt, free bike tuneups, and music.
Earth Week schedule:
- April 26-30: Donate items to Academic Affairs Clothing Drive in the residence halls.
- April 26-30: See a sculpture made from recycled materials by the USG Sustainability Committee on the quad.
- April 26 convo hour: Have a B.E.A.S.T. “lubeotomy” (free bike tuneup) on the quad.
- April 26 convo hour: Take home a piece of St. Thomas – small blocks of Mankato stone will be given away on the lower quad (no vehicles please).
- April 26: UST’s first solar compactor (from BigBelly Solar) on the quad.
- April 27, 8-10 p.m.: A video presentation of “Tapped” will be shown along with silent bingo and prizes offered in Scooter’s.
- April 28: At least six Green Team tables will be hosted over convo hour in the lower quad outside Murray-Herrick Campus Center:
- Green Team: Sign the pledge to reduce bottled water and receive a free water bottle.
- “Gayle and the Grill”: Gayle Lamb will talk about go-boxes and sustainability in food service.
- Hourcar: Christopher Bineham, program manager for Hourcar, will be on campus with one of UST’s Hourcars.
- UST Stewardship Garden: Information will be offered about the organic garden and how to get involved.
- Free Wellness Center “Quit Kits” will be available for individuals who want to stop using tobacco.
- KUST will provide information about Cloud Cult and Saturday’s concert.
- Get the details about the Twin Cities Bike Walk to Work Week.
- Show’d Up Band will provide acoustic music.
- April 28, convo hour: B.E.A.S.T. will offer a scavenger bike ride with prizes. Meet at 11:50 a.m. in the quad. The race will start shortly after noon.
- April 30, 7 p.m.: Cloud Cult will perform in concert in McCarthy Gym; free to UST students and $5 for guests.
