Dr. Sue Chaplin will speak on 'Teaching Global Ecology' tomorrow
Dr. Sue Chaplin, Biology Department, will give a presentation on "Teaching Global Ecology on Semester at Sea" at 3 p.m. tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 3, in Room 313, O'Shaughnessy Science Hall. Snacks will be available at 2:45 p.m.
Chaplin traveled 22,000 miles around the world during fall semester 2005, visiting 10 countries in 100 days, with roughly 55 days at sea and 45 days in ports. She will illustrate a discussion of global ecology issues with pictures from exotic locations where these issues have been and continue to be a primary concern.
Semester at Sea's voyages take place aboard the MV Explorer, a 24,000-ton passenger ship built in 2002 and equipped as a floating university. The fall 2005 voyage included 680 students, each taking four courses, and 25 faculty who offered a variety of courses in the liberal arts and sciences.
