Annual Documentary Photography Symposium showcases 'Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow'
The 10th annual Documentary Photography Symposium will feature the photography of Stuart Klipper and Petronella Ytsma.
Titled "Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow," the symposium will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 30, at the College of St. Catherine Fine Arts Building lecture hall, 2004 Randolph Ave., St. Paul.
Klipper and Ytsma will serve as panelists. George Slade, photo historian and former artistic director of the Minnesota Center for Photography (now closed), will moderate the panel.
Klipper’s book Antarctica was recently published by Chronicle Books and contains panoramic photographs made during his expeditions there.
Ytsma recently received funding from the Minnesota State Arts Board to continue her work photographing Vietnamese families affected by Agent Orange.
"Both artists are very articulate and produce quite compelling imagery," said Mark Jensen, one of the symposium's organizers.
The symposium, free and open to the public, is sponsored by the College of St. Catherine Department of Art and Art History, Knife River Photography Workshops, The Photographer’s Gallery, and the University of St. Thomas' O’Shaugnessy-Frey Library Center, the departments of Geology, Art History, the College of Arts and Sciences Office of the Dean, and University Relations.
