The Division of Student Affairs has announced changes that will make the Tommie Award process more user friendly for senior students. Students who are nominated this year will have more control over the submission of their materials to complete their nominations.
Previously, those who nominated a student for the award were responsible for gathering and submitting all the nomination materials, including two additional testimonials and the student’s résumé. This year, the nominator’s role begins and ends with submitting a nomination testimonial. Once this is submitted, students who qualify (meet minimum GPA and conduct requirements) will be informed of their nominations and then will be responsible for submitting the additional materials.
“In years past we have had incomplete nominations submitted,” said Tommie Award coordinator Vern Klobassa, “which is heartbreaking for students. We made the change to eliminate this problem by placing control over submitting materials in the hands of the nominees.”
In addition, the submission process is moving entirely digital. Students formerly had to print out an agreement form and then sign and submit it prior to the deadline. Students now will be able to complete this step digitally.
To nominate a senior undergraduate student for the Tommie Award, students, faculty and staff may fill out the digital nomination form found on the Tommie Award website. The deadline for nominations is 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24. Late submissions will not be accepted.
The Tommie Award is presented annually to a University of St. Thomas senior. Students, faculty and staff are invited to submit a nomination for seniors who best represent the ideals of St. Thomas Aquinas through their scholarship, leadership and campus involvement.
Nominees must have academic status as seniors, be in good conduct standing with the university, earn their degrees no later than December 2013, and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.75.
