The Rev. Dennis Dease, president of the University of St. Thomas, has been elected chair of the board of the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities, a Washington-D.C.-based association of 211 institutions of higher education. Dease was named chair at the association’s annual meeting last week.

ACCU promotes an understanding of Catholic higher education that emphasizes the collective and individual importance of its institutions, the variety among them, the quality of education they provide, and the contribution they make to the church, society, and the total mission of Catholic education.

The association acts in concert with other national and international associations in higher education, including the National Catholic Education Association, the International Federation of Catholic Universities, the Washington Higher Education Secretariat, and associations sponsored by other religious denominations. It represents ACCU members to the American Catholic community, branches and agencies of the federal government, the media, and the general public.
