The Tommie dancers compete throughout the year at both regional and national competitions and have appeared at various events within the community such as the Twin Cities Marathon, Minnesota Timberwolves halftime entertainment, Minnesota Vikings halftime entertainment and Minnesota Twins pre-game entertainment. The team also hosts an annual dance team competition called the “Tommie Invitational,” and teaches clinics with high school dance teams around the Twin Cities.
Nationally ranked since 2004, the UST Dance Team competes in the jazz and hip-hop categories at the Universal Dance Association (UDA) National College Dance Team Championships. St. Thomas repeatedly has placed in the top two in the Open Division (DII and III), earning national champion titles in 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2011. (See Bulletin Today, Jan. 24.) The competition is held at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., and airs throughout the year on ESPN and ESPN2.
