Applications are available for undergraduate students to become peer consultants in the Center for Writing starting in 2010-11. Completed applications, including a writing sample, are due by Friday, March 19.
"If you enjoy writing and helping others with theirs, and if you are interested in a future having to do with writing or working with others, consider working in the UST Center for Writing," remarked Dr. Susan Callaway, director of the center. "As a peer consultant you will work one-on-one with your peers from across the disciplines. You’ll gain strong interpersonal skills and improve your own writing and reading in a challenging intellectual environment. And you can consult until you graduate."
After they are hired, peer consultants need to complete a required course during fall semester; the course has a service-learning component.
To apply for a peer consultant position, pick up an application at the Center for Writing, Room 361, John R. Roach Center for the Liberal Arts, during its open hours: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon Friday. In O'Shaughnessy-Frey Library Center: 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
