Father Tolaas had been part of the St. Thomas community for more than 20 years; he was born with cystic fibrosis and died Sunday from complications following a lung and kidney transplant.
Tolaas, who had a double lung and kidney transplant June 20, now has a blood infection and has returned to the hospital’s intensive care unit.
A former president of St. Thomas, Dr. Shannon died at age 82 last week.
