Two forums – the first for faculty, staff and students and the second for neighbors – will be held Sept. 26 and 27 on a new St. Paul campus master plan for St. Thomas.
The first forum will be at noon Sept. 26 in north Woulfe Alumni Hall in the Anderson Student Center. Chris Chivettta, president of Hastings+Chivetta, a St. Louis planning, architecture and engineering firm hired to assist St. Thomas in developing the plan, will lead the one-hour session.
Chivetta also will lead the second forum, which will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 27, also in north Woulfe. The forum is open to the public. Neighbors from throughout the area will attend, as well as members of the West Summit Neighborhood Advisory Committee, the Macalester-Groveland Community Council and the Union Park Community Council.
St. Thomas began work more than a year ago on the master plan, which will guide campus development for the next 10 years. Hastings+Chivetta has worked closely with St. Thomas administrators and an on-campus task force, and met twice with neighbors during the 2015-16 academic year. The plan has examined every square foot of space on the St. Paul campus, how it is used and whether it should be repurposed or replaced, and what St. Thomas needs in terms of new and renovated academic facilities, housing and parking. Hastings+Chivetta also reviewed vehicular, pedestrian and bicycle traffic patterns and trends.
The St. Thomas Board of Trustees is scheduled to consider the plan at its Nov. 16-17 meetings.
