Campus-climate discussion group meets at noon Friday
All University of St. Thomas students, staff and faculty are welcome to the next campus-climate discussion and action group meeting from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 29, in Room 154, Murray-Herrick Campus Center (note the new location).
The meeting is the next in an on-going series that grew out of two events last semester. One was the October “Aspiring Social Justice Ally Development” workshop that was led by Dr. Keith Edwards and co-sponsored by seven campus organizations. The other was the series of hate crimes that took place in John Paul II Residence Hall, and the march and forum the followed.
Among the topics to be discussed Friday are:
- Diversity fatigue - How do we recognize signs of possible burn-out or fatigue when working on community-building efforts related to diversity. What can be done to energize the effort.
- Updates - Participants will give updates on various events, workshops and lectures related to diversity.
- Understanding and Dismantling Racism Workshop - The group will discuss this workshop sponsored by the Office of Institutional Diversity and Dean of Students Office. The workshop is open to students, staff and faculty and will run from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 26. Reservations will be required; more details on the workshop and how to register will be announced soon in Bulletin Today.
- Tommie Pride Day - The group will discuss the second annual Tommie Pride: Day of Caring and Sharing that will be held during spring semester. Here is a story about last year's Tommie Pride Day. A date has not yet been selected for the 2008 Tommie Pride Day.
For those who can’t make the meeting this Friday, similar gatherings will be held in the future. Also, feel free to bring your lunch.
