Campus-climate discussion group meets at noon Friday
All University of St. Thomas students, staff and faculty are welcome to the next campus-climate discussion and action group meeting from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, in Room 100, McNeely Hall (note the new location).
The meeting is the next in an on-going series that grew out of two events this fall. One was the Oct. 29 “Aspiring Social Justice Ally Development” workshop that was led by Dr. Keith Edwards and co-sponsored by seven campus organizations. The other was the series of hate crimes that took place in John Paul II Residence Hall, and the march and forum the followed.
Among the topics to be discussed Friday are:
- The university’s new hate crime policy that recently was adopted and published.
- Training programs for those St. Thomas departments, offices and employees involved with enforcement of the hate crime policy.
- Similar training programs at other Minnesota colleges and universities.
- A recent Katherine Kersten column in the Star Tribune newspaper regarding a St. Thomas Board of Trustees decision in October to elect the board’s chairman, and a response by Father Dennis Dease, president, that was published in the paper on Tuesday.
- Plans for the spring semester, including a meeting schedule and possible speakers.
For those who can’t make the meeting this Friday, similar gatherings will be held in the future. Also, feel free to your lunch.
