Book discussion group to read Dr. Sylvia Earle’s Sea Change

You are invited to participate in an informal small group of faculty, staff and students who will read and discuss Dr. Sylvia Earle’s book, Sea Change. A Message of the Oceans, in late February and early March.

Earle will give the 10th Annual Luann Dummer Lecture in Celebration of Women’s History Month, “Experiencing the Deep Frontier,” at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 6, in the O’Shaughnessy Educational Center auditorium.

Discussion group participants will receive a complimentary copy of Sea Change.  The Boston Globe describes it as “a book of adventure and wisdom, beauty and pathos. With this book, she [Earle] holds out her hand and invites us to go deeper and deeper with her as our guide until we realize that the deeper we go and the longer we stay, the more we care.” Also, the San Francisco Examiner says, “Earle, from her watery depths, illuminates how human enterprise in the last 200 years — a mere sliver of time in environmental terms — has inextricably altered the planet.”
