Attend St. Thomas Day at the Capitol March 8

Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to participate in St. Thomas Day at the Capitol on Thursday, March 8.

The four-hour event will give members of the St. Thomas community the opportunity to learn more about the Minnesota State Grant Program, hear from legislative leaders and meet with legislators from their home districts to discuss the program's value.

More than 1,140 St. Thomas undergraduate students who are Minnesota residents are receiving $4.1 million in need-based state grants this year, or an average of $3,622 per recipient. Father Dennis Dease, president of the university, sent e-mail messages today to grant recipients, asking them to register for St. Thomas Day at the Capitol.

Legislators and Gov. Tim Pawlenty will set the State Grant Program's budget this spring for the 2007-08 and 2008-09 academic years. St. Thomas , in cooperation with the other 16 institutions that are part of the Minnesota Private College Council, is encouraging Pawlenty and legislators to increase funding for the program.

On March 8, St. Thomas will provide a bus from the St. Paul campus to the Capitol and back for the event, which will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

You can register online on the Minnesota Private Colleges Web site, where you should click on "Register Now." Registrations will be accepted until March 7, but people are encouraged to register by Feb. 28 in order to give the Minnesota Private College Council staff enough time to schedule meetings with legislators.
