The University of St. Thomas Alumni Association is taking nominations for its board of directors, the alumni board’s faculty representative and for three awards that will be presented on St. Thomas Day, March 4, 2000. Nominations are due Nov. 22. No late nominations will be accepted.
Alumni Association board of directors: Alumni may be nominated for seats on the Alumni Association board of directors. The board consists of 25 to 35 representatives who serve staggered, three-year terms. The board meets four times a year, and members serve on one or two committees that meet monthly.
The mission of the Alumni Association is “to foster a lifelong commitment between the University of St. Thomas and its alumni by providing the alumni opportunities to engage in spiritual, educational, professional, social and community-service activities, and by providing the university the special perspective and support of the alumni in its life and growth.”
Distinguished Alumnus/Alumna Award: Honors an individual for leadership and service to St. Thomas, the community and in his or her field of endeavor. The 1999 recipient was Michael Ciresi ’68, internationally recognized lawyer and St. Thomas trustee.
Humanitarian Award: Recognizes contributions to the betterment of the spiritual and material welfare of the less fortunate. The 1999 recipient was Amy Machacek Etzell ’91 and Mark Etzell ’84, honored for their efforts as foster parents.
Monsignor James Lavin Award: Honors a St. Thomas alumnus or alumna for outstanding contributions and service to the University of St. Thomas Alumni Association, its programs and services. The 1999 recipient was Tom Winkels ’81, longtime Alumni Association volunteer and association past-president.
