Allison Johnson and Jane Tigan will serve as Catholic Social Teaching interns
Congratulations to students Allison Johnson and Jane Tigan, who have been accepted as Catholic Social Teaching (CST) summer interns with Interfaith Worker Justice.
This internship provides students an opportunity to experience the challenges of labor in our increasingly globalized economy. It also helps engender a deeper understanding of the integration between the theological and moral message of Catholic social thought and the complexities of organizational life.
The 10-week paid internship includes: education on the principles of Catholic social teaching and economic justice; training in organizing skills, advocacy and social analysis; and hands-on experience working to improve the lives of workers.
Participants in the CST internship are assigned to a local interfaith committee to work on a wide range of issues, including living wage, worker organizing and affordable health benefits. Johnson will work with the Twin Cities Religion and Labor Network in Minneapolis. Tigan will be in Phoenix, Ariz., working on the development of a liveable wage initiative.
The internship is coordinated through the Justice and Peace Studies Program and funded through “Beyond Career to Calling,” a Lilly Endowment project.
