• St. Thomas Summer Construction Roster Features 13 Projects

    This summer will be another busy one at the University of St. Thomas. Thirteen construction projects, totaling roughly $1.7 million, are scheduled late May through the end of August.

    The construction will update, restore and/or increase energy-efficiency in and around buildings on the university’s St. Paul and Minneapolis campuses.

    Those projects include:

    2085 Grand Ave.

    • Installation of a networked Simplex fire alarm system

    Brady Educational Center

    • Replacement of original (1966) wood auditorium stage floor


    • Replacement of sidewalks
    • Tuckpointing and stone cleaning of buildings

    Murray-Herrick Campus Center: Phase two of remodel

    • Five high-tech classrooms to be built on second floor in the former kitchen area
    • Student Financial Services will move from Aquinas Hall to first floor of MHC

     Owens Science Hall

    • Remodeling of chemistry and biology labs
    • Construction of offices to meet growing needs of current Mathematics and Biology Departments enrollments
    • Replacement of a 350-horsepower burner, which is 50-percent efficient, to a new 95-percent-efficient model
    • Replacement of valves on fume-hood systems and 15-year-old Strobic air fans (both are parts of exhaust system)

    St. Paul south campus

    • Replacement of an oil tank in front of Service Center with a new 20,000-gallon tank

    Summit classroom building

    • Renovation of five bathrooms

    Residence halls

    • Carpet replacement of all residence rooms in John Paul II and several floors in Grace and Dowling halls; rooms in the remaining residences will receive new carpeting as needed
    • Replacement of original HVAC heat wheel (part of ventilation system), which is 40-percent efficient, in Brady Residence Hall; the new wheel is rated 95-percent efficient

    Terrence Murphy Hall

    • Replacement of front granite pavers, which are warped, uneven and deteriorating, with patterned concrete
    • Major tuckpointing, stone repair and stone cleaning
