The UST Libraries Food-for-Fines drive, held in conjunction with the English Department’s Common Context “Hunger” theme, will continue from now until the end of fall semester on Thursday, Dec. 22.

This food drive offers library patrons the opportunity to donate nonperishable food items in exchange for waived library fines. One item equals $2 in fines; in addition, all library fines paid in cash between now and the end of the semester can be donated to the drive at the request of the patron.

Nonperishable food items may be brought to circulation desks at the Archbishop Ireland Memorial Library or the O’Shaugnessy-Frey Library Center. All donations will be given to the Francis Basket Food Shelf.

Listed below are preferred food items, although all nonperishable food donations will be accepted:

• Basic foods – cereals, crackers, canned meat and tuna, powdered milk, oil for cooking, pasta, macaroni, Asian noodles, peanut butter, rice, sugar, baby food and formula with iron
• Soups – ramen noodle and chicken noodle
• Canned and boxed fruits and vegetables – tomatoes, tomato sauce, spaghetti sauce, peas, corn, apple sauce, peaches, pears, pineapple and raisins 
• Paper products – toilet paper, paper towels and diapers
