    • Finally, college grads see brighter job outlook,” Star Tribune, May 12, 2004. “‘We’re seeing more hiring of seniors for internships,’ said Diane Crist, director of undergraduate career development at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul. ‘Seniors are looking at them more than in the past. Many of them hope it will turn into something full time, but they’re realistic. They’re just happy to have a foot in the door.’ … The other extreme is Meghan Maki. She started her job search last September, and Marshall Field’s hired her before Thanksgiving. Maki, a marketing major, starts work as an executive in training after she graduates this spring from St. Thomas. ‘I felt great all through winter break,’ Maki said. ‘I recommend it to everyone.’” http://www.startribune.com/stories/535/4771497.html

    • Workplace politics,” Star Tribune, May 13, 2004. “Political speech, generally, is one of the most protected forms of expression in this country. But employers have every right to step in if things get so out of hand that they get in the way of work, said Dawn Swink, assistant professor for legal studies at the University of St. Thomas College of Business. Sports columnist Charley Walters writes, “Former University of St. Thomas linebacker Bill Palmer and his father, Art, of Stillwater have made a $1 million gift to the school to be used for artificial turf at O’Shaughnessy Stadium as well as remodeling of the school’s weight room and resurfacing of the outdoor track. The Tommies’ football field will be named Palmer Field. This sports column reports, “MIAC pitcher of the year Janet Nagle and conference player of the year Michelle Wong are among three St. Thomas softball players chosen to the National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association All-America team.
