• Family Weekend starts Friday

    Parents and siblings of St. Thomas students will be on campus for Family Weekend, which begins Friday. Here’s a list of activities planned:

    Friday, Oct. 4
    Registration

    7 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the Hospitality and Registration Center on the first floor, Murray-Herrick Campus Center
    Pick up your meal tickets and final schedule of events.

    Parents visit classes with their son or daughter

    7:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
    Students should notify their professor prior to class.

    Open house with faculty and staff
    3-4 p.m. in the Commuter Lounge, first floor, Murray-Herrick Campus Center
    Music provided by the Showed Up String Band.

    Dinner
    4-7 p.m.  Information about area restaurants is available at the Hospitality and Registration Center.

    Tonic Sol-fa (a cappella group) performs
    7 p.m. in O’Shaughnessy Educational Center auditorium

    Opening night of "Comedy of Errors" at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis
    7:30 p.m.  Recommended for ages 12 and older, but the Guthrie will allow children as young as 8 to attend.  Tickets are $14 and $25.50 at UST’s Box Office and Expeditions, (651) 962-6137, or online.

    "Triple Espresso" at the Music Box Theater in Minneapolis
    8 p.m.

    Author Mitch Albom to speak
    8:30 p.m. in O’Shaughnessy Educational Center auditorium.
    Albom is the author of Tuesdays with Morrie.  His lecture is for Family Weekend visitors and the St. Thomas community.

    Saturday, Oct. 5
    Registration

    7 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on the first floor, Murray-Herrick Campus Center
    This is for those who did not register on Friday.

    5K fun run/walk
    7:30 a.m. (see final schedule for starting location)

    Academic presentations by faculty members
    9-11 a.m. (see final schedule for details)

    Television host Siobhán Cleary to speak
    11 a.m. in O’Shaughnessy Educational Center auditorium
    She is the former host of "Health Diary," a weekly national public television series.  She will speak on "Coping in Uncertain Times."

    Lunch with the Rev. Dennis Dease, president
    Noon in the Student Dining Room, Murray-Herrick Campus Center
    Dease will be the keynote speaker and answer questions. (For students on the meal plan who are not participating in Family Weekend, a special menu is available in The Grill from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.)

    Trolley tour
    1:30 p.m.
    The Minneapolis River City Trolley will visit the downtown Minneapolis campus.  Tickets are $10 and preregistration is required.

    "Tony and Tina’s Wedding" at the Hey City Theater in Minneapolis
    5 p.m.
    Tickets are $53 and include dinner catered by D’Amico and Sons.  Dinner is served about one hour into  the show and includes: Caesar salad, Italian bread, ziti pasta and marinara sauce with a side of meatballs and wedding cake for dessert.     Lip-sync contest
    7:30 p.m. in O’Shaughnessy Educational Center auditorium
    The contest is open to groups of faculty, staff and students.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

    Sunday, Oct. 6
    Mass

    9 a.m. in the Chapel of St. Thomas Aquinas

    Brunch
    10 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Student Dining Room, Murray-Herrick Campus Center

    Mass
    11 a.m. in the Chapel of St. Thomas Aquinas
    The Liturgical Choir will perform at this Mass.  Information about additional worship opportunities in the area will be available at the Hospitality and Registration Center.

    "The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife" at the Ordway Theater in St. Paul
    2 p.m.

    "South Pacific" at the Orpheum Theater in Minneapolis
    2 p.m.
