Gregory Roberts honored by Indiana University

The Indiana University Department of Higher Education and Student Affairs (HESA) is presenting its 2002 Elizabeth Greenleaf Outstanding Alumni Award to Gregory Roberts, vice president for student affairs at the University of St. Thomas.

The annual award is named for Dr. Elizabeth Greenleaf, former faculty member in the HESA graduate program at Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind.

A pioneer in the field of student affairs, she was instrumental in developing the foundation for student affairs practice, encouraging the adoption of a holistic approach to development, and teaching HESA students how to become human-development experts.

As former president of the American College Personnel Association, she stressed the importance of leadership and role modeling.

The Greenleaf award is given to an alum of the HESA master’s program in recognition for excellence and achievement in the field of student affairs.

Roberts is a 1976 graduate of HESA and has served as vice president for student affairs at St. Thomas since 1993.

He was selected for the award in part for his leadership as president of the American College Personnel Association and contributions to professional practice via teaching and presentations.

The award has personal significance for Roberts: “‘Dr. G,’ as we called her, was a wonderful adviser and mentor to me as I began my program at Indiana,” he said. “She was instrumental in my formative years and taught me a lot about what it means to be an effective leader in the field.”
