In honor of Women’s History Month (March), Art Attack and Women for Change are co-sponsoring a visual arts and creative writing contest.
Submissions from University of St. Thomas students, graduate and undergraduate, will be included in an art exhibition. Topics can include insights into women’s struggles or personal experiences. Artists and writers also can explore women throughout history and contemporary events that shape women’s lives. Men are invited and encouraged to participate.
Submissions fall into two categories: visual arts, which include sculpture, painting, sketches, textiles or ceramics; and creative writing, which includes poetry or short essays. Visual artists should include a short artist’s statement explaining the meaning and influences that inspired their artwork.
St. Thomas faculty and students will judge entries. Selected entries will be displayed in Brady Educational Center during April and May. Prizes will be given to the three best entries in each category. Prizes include gift certificates ranging from $10 to $40 from local businesses owned and operated by women.
Creative writing should be sent by campus mail to Jill Deedrick at Mail #2086.
Art entries can be dropped off from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, in Room 209, Loras Hall. If you need to make alternate arrangements, call Cynthia Becker in the Art History Department at (651) 962-5572.
