From Dr. Ralph Pearson
Vice president for academic affairs
I am pleased to inform the campus community that Dr. Joseph Kreitzer, chair of the Department of Economics and longtime member of the Budget Advisory Committee, has accepted my invitation to fill the newly created position of associate vice president for academic affairs. The search committee recommended him unanimously for the appointment. Dr. Kreitzer’s responsibilities will include assisting me in the management of academic budgets and supporting adjunct and new faculty. During the spring 2001 semester he will be available to continue work with his colleagues in the Department of Economics and in the future take opportunities to continue some teaching.
I am especially glad to have another member of our faculty join me in the work of this office for students and faculty. At far too many colleges and universities, the relationship between the faculty and administration is anything but collegial. I shall do all that I can to keep that relationship one which is characterized by open lines of communication and dialogue among colleagues who respect one another. I believe that the appointment of highly regarded faculty to administrative positions conveys that commitment more effectively than anything that I could write or say.
