The first lecture in the University Lecture Series will feature George Weigel, author of Witness to Hope: The Biography of Pope John Paul II. The lecture, sponsored by STAR Lectures and the Center for Catholic Studies, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, in O’Shaughnessy Educational Center auditorium.
Weigel is a Senior Fellow of the Ethics and Public Policy Center, a Roman Catholic theologian, and one of America’s leading commentators on issues related to religion and public life. His biography of the pope was published in October 1999, and he is touring the United States and abroad to promote the work.
He has served on the boards of directors of several human rights and religious freedom organizations and is a member of the editorial boards of First Things, The Washington Quarterly, and Orbis.
Weigel will speak about his biography of Pope John Paul II and his knowledge of the pope’s life. This lecture is free and open to the public.
