A workshop for faculty who are interested in and committed to service learning will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Jan. 10-13, on the St. Paul campus. All participants will receive a $500 stipend. The deadline for applications is Friday, Dec. 10.

The goal of the workshop is to integrate meaningful service experiences in the urban community with courses in a broad range of academic disciplines. The workshop will bring together a group of faculty who will review and revise their own syllabi and serve as “consultants” to one another.

The workshop will include:

• Pre-workshop reading of critical articles on curriculum design and service learning
• Discussion of curriculum-design issues
• Pre-workshop submission of at least one syllabus with a service-learning component or one syllabus that would adapt well to service learning
• Critique and evaluation of other participants’ integration of service learning
• Revision by each participant of their own syllabus to reflect and incorporate new designs

The group also will meet twice during the spring semester to assess the success of the service-learning projects for the students, faculty and the community being served.
