
All styles of music are taught, learned and performed here and are encouraged. We believe the guitar is the ultimate "crossover" instrument of the 20th and 21st centuries. That is to say that whether your tastes run to the electric or the ethnic, to the classic or to rock, UST Guitar Studies honors your choice and has a faculty member to serve your needs.
Ideally, yes. Specific styles most often times require different instruments -- i.e. classical and Brazilian on a nylon string guitar, jazz on an electric (although this one can go on all the guitars), folk on steel string, etc.
The UST Guitar Studies Program has free loaner guitars for beginners.
The UST Department of Music offers the B.A. degree in music at both the major and minor level.
No! The UST Guitar Studies Program welcomes and honors all styles of music for guitar. You can earn credit studying any style of guitar music.
All five of the guitar faculty perform regularly in a variety of local venues.

The guitar-related courses are required of those majoring in guitar but are open to all UST students.
There are dedicated scholarships for those majoring on the guitar.
The Guitar Program regularly receives calls from area teaching studios looking for guitar teacher referrals. The average hourly wage is $12.
The UST Department of Music has two MIDI recording studios, one of which is dedicated for guitar. Also, the Guitar Ensemble records anually in a professional studio.

There are numerous opportunities for performing on campus; off campus opportunities are organized through the MVP program.
