Minor in Music Composition

The minor in Music Composition is designed for students who wish to compose original music and develop their own personal artistic style. Students will learn about composing and arranging music for any combination of instruments (acoustic, electronic) and/or voices, and have their pieces performed by UST students and/or local professionals.

Minor Requirements

  • MUSC 113 Music Theory I (4 cr.)
  • MUSC 114 Music Theory II (4 cr.)
  • MUSC 140 Music Media (2 cr.)
  • MUSC 231 Intro to Conducting I (1 cr.)
  • MUSN 1xx Four semesters of Ensembles including at least one semester of MUSN 176 New Music Ensemble (1 cr. per semesters)
  • MUSP 165 Four semesters of Composition Studies, 50 minute lessons (1 cr. per semester)
  • MUSR 270 Level I Composition Recital (0 cr.)

 Plus four credits from the following

  • MUSC 101 Piano Skills I (1 cr.)
  • MUSC 102 Piano Skills II (1 cr.)
  • MUSC 130 Introduction to World Music (4 cr.)
