Dr. Sarah Schmalenberger (Assistant Professor, music history and horn) is the principal investigator of the Life and Livelihood Study, a national research project she designed to study how breast cancer and its treatment affects women musicians.  The study site, http://www.musiciansurvivor.org contains a link to a survey that women musicians can take online.  Dr. Schmalenberger recently presented preliminary data from the research at the National Consortium of Breast Centers meeting, and she also has published an article, "Life and Livelihood: Musicians Coping with Breast Cancer" about this research in the Review of Disability Studies, which is accessible at http://www.rds.hawaii.edu.downloads/ Volume 4 Issue 1, 2008.
